Ashgabat CIS Summit
On October 10-11, 2019, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the city of Ashgabat.
The meeting, chaired by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, was attended by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev.
Leaders of the countries held talks in a narrow format. Issues of further strengthening cooperation within the Commonwealth, improvement of the activity of this international structure were discussed, views were exchanged on regional and international issues. Addressing the event, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the need for expanding multilateral cooperation and drew special attention to promising areas of cooperation within the Commonwealth.
Uzbekistan considers the CIS as an effective platform for deepening practical partnership, primarily in developing trade and economic ties, promoting joint projects in various industries, unlocking transport and logistics and transit potential, strengthening security, cultural and humanitarian exchange. In recent years, the participation of Uzbekistan in the organization has intensified significantly. This year, Uzbekistan hosted many CIS events.
The Decision on Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the CIS in 2020 was unanimously supported at the meeting.

The CIS Summit continued with extended negotiations.
Heads of states considered issues aimed at further expanding multilateral cooperation, exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
In his speech, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his gratitude for supporting the decision on Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the Commonwealth in 2020 and noted that the priority of the country’s chairmanship will become the consistent expansion and increase of the effectiveness of multilateral cooperation within the CIS.
It was proposed to accelerate the adoption of the new Concept for Further Development and the Commonwealth Economic Development Strategy until 2030.
Main attention will be paid to ensuring the full functioning of the free trade zone, deepening production cooperation and developing markets of third countries, developing mutually beneficial forms of cooperation, implementing innovative, scientific and educational programs.
The President of Uzbekistan noted the importance of preparing Priorities for development of transport and transit corridors and the Concept for interregional cooperation for a ten-year period.
The First Forum of the CIS Regions will be held in Uzbekistan next year. It was also proposed to lead a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS Chambers of Commerce and Industry and, under its auspices, the Commonwealth Business Initiatives Week.
Information security events are also planned within the framework of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
Documents were signed following the negotiations. The Decision on Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the CIS in 2020, the Declaration on Strategic Economic Cooperation, and the Address of the Heads of CIS Member States to the people of the Commonwealth and the world community on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, Cooperation Program in the fight against terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism for 2020–2022 and other documents were taken.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, having completed participation in the events of the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of States, departed for Tashkent.

MEETINGS WITHIN THE SUMMIT
On October 11, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, in Ashgabat.
Heads of states noted with deep satisfaction the current level of Uzbekistan – Tajikistan relations of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership.
Current issues of expanding bilateral practical cooperation, primarily in trade, industrial cooperation, energy, transport, cultural and humanitarian exchange and other priority areas were discussed at the meeting.
Leaders of the two countries considered the schedule of the upcoming high-level meetings, as well as exchanged views on the international and regional agenda.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has received the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, in Ashgabat.
The importance of further developing mutually beneficial cooperation in trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres was noted at the meeting.
An agreement was reached on the organization of mutual exchanges at the intergovernmental and interdepartmental levels.
Current issues of the international agenda and interaction within the framework of multilateral organizations were also discussed.
