Tashkent to host International Seminar of the OIC IPHRC
On October 7-8, 2019, Tashkent will host the 6th International Seminar of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission on “Importance of promoting and protecting the rights of youth for building peaceful and democratic societies and sustainable development”.
According to the organizers, the intended aim of the seminar is to establish a multi-stakeholder’ dialogue to objectively analyze the scope of existing international and regional instruments and mechanisms, to protect and promote youth rights, highlight the key challenges faced by the youth in the OIC Member States for the full realization of their rights, examine the impact of ongoing policies and programs concerning the youth and propose ways and means to improve the legal, administrative and political frameworks with concrete recommendations to mainstream youth rights in all State policies enabling them to meaningfully contribute towards the building of inclusive societies and promoting sustainable development.
Invited panelists and IPHRC members are expected to focus on the legal and conceptual dimensions of the seminar theme and sharing of best practices. Participants of the seminar from OIC member and observer states and their NHRIs, on the other hand, will provide a situational analysis on the present state of affairs in their respective countries and describe ongoing policies and programs related to youth.
The seminar will be attended by members of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, experts, the UN, UNESCO, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, the European Council, as well as representatives of almost 50 OIC member states and those with an observer status, representatives of national human rights institutions.
